Got Envy?
Envy is an emotion that "occurs when a person lacks another’s superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it." Envy is the pain or frustration caused by another person having something that one does not have oneself.
Sounds like I just described everyone that does not care for the “U”? Now I know that the majority of college football fans would not be envious of what Miami and its fans went through last year. But I believe that they are envious of the Miami Hurricanes because of past accomplishments; the 5 National Championships, the 58 Game Home Winning Streak, 13 years in a row with a first round pick in the NFL, and other accomplishments. I also believe they will be envious of future Hurricane accomplishments: ACC titles, National Championships #6 and beyond, south Florida talent staying at home, etc.
Envy is often associated with the color green, as in "green with envy". Since we are looking at colors and emotions lets analyze the other color associated with the “U”.
Orange is a power color. Orange means vitality with endurance. In English heraldry, orange supposedly denotes strength, honor, generosity, and prosperity. It also stimulates enthusiasm and creativity. People who like orange are usually thoughtful and sincere. Orange represents us, the Canes Fans, the Legion members.
Can that mean that green, the color of envy, represents all the Miami bashers and haters? I’m not so sure, but what I do know is that the biased media and the uninformed fans that love to hate the Canes are suffering from Hurricane Envy.
They all know, but can’t say: It’s great, to be, a Miami Hurricane!
